2022, Second Place

Diana is an undergraduate freshman pursuing nursing and has hopes of being an author.
"Misconception of Me was written through long-term experiences that involved the love for my loved ones and the love I soon realized I was missing for myself. People would tend to have misconceptions of me and would think I was someone that was genuinely mean and nonchalant. Truthfully, I was going through something internally that I did not think I would want to face because all this time I thought this is who I am. ‘There is no other Diana. I am who I am now and will forever be this way...accustomed to sadness.’ Telling my story from beginning to end made me feel genuine happiness because ‘my voice’ is being heard. The letters I find myself writing to my future self in regards to telling myself I have a purpose of being here ‘keeping going,’ kept me determined and motivated to know I am doing this not only for me but for those who are battling mental health as well."
